There are quite a few threads on the topic but can't really find my answer. I'm standing here with my excavated basement and now need to rebuild it anew. I've never done such a project before and am pondering the following:
- A fairly square room to be cast totaling 27 sqm. Do I just lay out my EPS boards (20cm, 2x100mm) edge to edge with the existing basement wall and then stagger the joints between the layers? When casting new, one usually makes a slightly deeper channel next to the edge elements with reinforcement, but maybe that's not needed in this case? Do you also need to "bevel cut" some narrow pieces up against the existing basement interior wall?
- What's the easiest way to get the macadam layer underneath even? Measure out with a laser and then try to level it with something?
- Anything else to keep in mind?
I will then take help from a carpenter for the actual casting.
For information, it will have the following layers:
5cm macadam
20cm insulation
8cm slab with underfloor heating
2cm for the flooring on top.
This totals 35cm, which is also the depth we've excavated to.
