Question about studs on concrete wall
I am going to install horizontal wall panels in an apartment. I need to install studs first as the wall is made of concrete; it is an interior wall. My question is, do I need anything between the studs and the wall? And what dimension should the studs be?
No, you don't need anything as long as we're working on an interior wall.G Jolles said:
The dimension depends on several factors, soundproofing, etc. I usually work with 45x70 with steel studs both at the top and bottom. C-C 600 or shorter depending on the panel thickness.
Thanks for the answers.
Would it work to use 28X70 studs?
We haven't planned to put up anything beyond the panel.
How is it best to attach the studs to the wall?

28x70 would work excellently, I think. Just make sure to use screws short enough so that they just bottom out in the board. You don't want them sticking into the concrete wall because then they probably won't go in all the way, and you don't want them too short because then they won't hold well. Moderation is key.
Attach the studs to the wall with plugs. Drill holes with a rotary hammer, plug, and fasten the stud.

How about studs resting directly on a concrete floor, can you put a little wind barrier in between and then it's fine? The stud should be attached to a parallel vertical stud but needs to reach down to the floor which happens to be concrete.
