wonder if someone can explain this to me. If a room is a fire compartment and I want to build a partition within the room with a wall, can I use a regular wall or should the wall be constructed in a special way? It's only when I run electrical conduits or HVAC through the fire compartment wall that it needs to be fire-rated, right?

Normally, a fire compartment can contain a number of rooms. If you have a room that is a compartment and you build a new wall across it, everything within that compartment is included regardless of the division.

If we compare with an apartment building with multiple floors and apartments. Each apartment is its own fire compartment and each stairwell is its own fire compartment.

A fire should be able to burn in an apartment for 60 minutes before the fire breaks through into another apartment, but within the apartment there are no limitations.

Okay, everything within the room/cell has no requirements. If I have a junction box in the wall with a conduit going through the cell wall, does it need to be sealed with fire-rated sealant?
