Going to pour a slab for the garage and have looked at reinforcing mesh. Byggmax offers it for 229 kr while my usual supplier charges at least double that. They say there's a difference in quality, I have no idea myself. OK, it's not a huge amount of money, but costs can easily add up here and there. What do you think I should choose??
I have learned that the mesh you buy at byggmax has two faults. Firstly, it is only 5mm, and secondly, there is 20cm between the bars. 6mm/15cm is a better choice because it can hold up to walking on while you pour. I paid about 500 SEK for such a mesh (5x2.35m, 6mm/15cm).
The reinforcement mesh generally serves as crack reinforcement, meaning it is not meant to absorb larger forces. In "Gjuta grund," 5mm c200 is recommended, which is exactly what Byggmax sells. Personally, I see nothing wrong with using Byggmax's reinforcement mesh for casting slabs on the ground.
I don't fully agree with this because the difference is that it's not the same things being compared.styrman1 said:
You obviously have to compare the quality among reinforcement of the same type, and I don't think there's any difference at all.
I don't mean it has to do with strength, it's about purely practical things. If you step on 5mm reinforcement, it bends and remains bent. Inconvenient when casting. Got the tip from another basement project on the forum and then tested it myself. The additional cost for 6mm iron felt trivial.MartinT said:The reinforcement mesh usually constitutes crack reinforcement, i.e., it is not meant to take up larger forces. Thanks for all the tips! I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning towards quality over price...
That's exactly what byggmax doesn't do.Snuttjulle said:
insulation of lower quality but they don't mention that. roofing plastic that can't be stored outdoors.
They don't care about quality, only price. Now it doesn't matter on some items anyway.
Lambda values are measured according to different standards in Sweden and the Baltic countries. A few years ago, Byggmax had an ad for insulation with a lambda value that was not comparable to how we measure in the rest of Europe. Another example, the last one I intend to give in this thread, is when the state testing institute conducted tests on their floor chipboard, it did not pass the long-term load according to the standard for private residences. Clever, right?
You're probably being ripped off by the fancy building supplier - that's a reason not to shop there...Starfighter said:I'm planning to pour a slab for the garage and have been looking at reinforcement mesh. Lay double Byggmax mats and it should hold
Rebar is a fairly simple product where you can check the price per kilo of iron. Check what 1 kg of iron costs at Byggmax and compare it with the price at the fancy building supply store. You can count the difference as bargaining room..
