Have just bought a charming old house from the 1860s that we will only use as a summer home. In the kitchen, there were ugly kitchen cabinets from the 70s that we are going to replace with new ones. We have torn down the kitchen cabinets and see that behind them, closest to the outer wall, there is a tretex panel, then studs, and nearest the room is chipboard. There are also electrical wires that need to remain. How should we go about creating an attractive wall above the kitchen counter that will also be tiled and wallpapered/painted? Should we remove the tretex panel and insulate, or is it unnecessary considering that the rest of the room/house is uninsulated?
Kitchen wall with exposed wiring and removed cabinets, showing particle boards, insulation, and a sink with dishes on the counter.

See no reason to insulate, would personally put renovation gypsum 6 mm on the chipboard as a good base for tiles and paint.

Thank you, yes that would of course be the easiest.
