AC: Interesting!
My very rough comparison figure I think I got from the consumer agency (!). Obviously, it was also irrelevant, excuse me for that. I also see that your figure is in Ytong's "Lättbetonghandbok".
How about cellular plastic, do you have any figure there too?

With foam plastic, I was thinking of Styrofoam (which is actually a brand, right?). Because that's usually what's used for house insulation? As for lightweight concrete's insulation value, the 500-quality is the most relevant since that's what is typically used for building walls, that's what I had in mind when I thought my figure wasn't that interesting.

As I understand it, the U-value for the Polish 35.6 cm ytong blocks is 0.29 W/m2K, which is slightly on the higher side if you want a well-insulated wall.

What are the pros/cons if you use two 35.6 blocks so that the wall becomes a massive 73 cm ytong with a U-value of 0.145 W/m2K?

You will get a very heavy structure, which will probably mean that the foundation/slab must be significantly reinforced. In addition, you will have deep window reveals, so it may be dark indoors, but on the other hand, you will likely have very nice window sills.

Okay... the frame becomes much heavier. How about the cost aspect, is a U-value of 0.145 good and is the increased cost worth it? What should one expect alternatives with 35.6cm ytong and insulation, etc. to cost instead if one wants a U-value of 0.145?

Another possibility that has been discussed earlier is to add mineral wool externally and then plaster. Compare Optiroc's system.

Last spring, several people wrote about their plans to buy Ytong from Poland - has anyone gone through with it and would like to share their experiences? :D

Does the fact that stone houses store heat result in lower heating costs?

I am also interested to hear if there is anyone who has experience with the Polish Ytong.

What is the additional cost of adding insulation on the outside? - does it become more complicated to plaster the facade with additional insulation on the outside?

Hello everyone!

Wow, it's been a while since I started this thread! I haven't had the chance to research more about Ytong from Poland or Estonia, but regarding external insulation, the downside is that the plaster (if you choose this surface finish) becomes much more fragile than if you plaster directly on the stone.

If/when we build an extension, we will opt for some form of heat pump so that heating doesn't become too costly (yes, we like to keep it warm inside!)

Best regards, Stefan :-)

PS there's another great "thread" about building with stone/lightweight concrete (not started by me). Search the forum, and you'll find more price information there. DS
