I'm in the process of building a deck. I have dug out and set the piers. I wonder if it's possible to use AB rated timber for the joists, or if I must try to obtain A rated timber. The lawn will be adjacent to the deck, and the soil will be against the joists in some places.
Can I use tar paper or something else to protect the joists from wet soil?
