My plans to raise and expand my stone house, 1.5-storey + basement from -54, are soon approaching the real planning stage after having so far been grand dreams.

The "end state" I have in mind is that when it's all finished, the house will have been complemented with a 6x6m angled extension and the whole house will be raised to a 2-storey.

My major sources of inspiration here on the forum have been Robert and Nina's building diary - how to expand a 1-storey house to a 2-storey house and : : : PineBar.com : : :. You could say my project is a combo of these but with a stone house as the base for it all.

It will be like a completely new house structure with a basement standing next to the old house, and then a full-sized upper floor on these.

As I've "planned" it, a well-insulated slab at the same height as the basement floor would first be made, then basement walls would be built, and on top of that a concrete floor would be cast. So far, everything except the well-insulated basement floor is done as it was from the beginning of time -54. After that, a timber frame would be erected, and the old house would get a roof lift to full 2-storey height also with a timber frame. The entire structure would then be externally plastered and insulated with mineral wool and thick plastered; this would also be done on the old house structure to provide a new surface for the whole house.

Can you "see" it all before you?

I will clarify if desired and all comments are very welcome.

Fun with grand projects. Hope you've paused acquaintance with all your friends, cut the TV antenna cable, and involved your partner in the project.

A question though...
If the house is built of stone, why not continue building in the same way?

Sure, the first criteria are already met.

The idea of building with loose timber is primarily because I have the impression that it leads faster to a point where you can put a roof on the whole thing.

Also, I perceive it as a lighter construction both in terms of weight and technique.

Unfortunately, I am not a structural engineer or equivalent, just  a simple smörjtroll.
However, I have previously helped with loose timber construction but only have experience in demolishing lightweight concrete structures...

Exciting!

I'm also looking forward to following your project. I also hope that you have somewhere else to live while you are building at your busiest.

Good luck!
