I have bought a house with an inner corridor measuring 14*4 meters, where one side is glazed and the other side is made of aerated concrete blocks. Currently, there is a 1-meter wide flower bed directly against the aerated concrete wall, which the inspector has recommended I remove, lay a Platon mat, and fill with gravel. The entire plot is sandy soil, so the inspector saw no reason to install drainage (which no one else in the area has done, and they haven't encountered problems either). Now for the questions:
1. How deep should the Platon mat be laid? Is 30-40 cm enough (the purpose is to protect the joists under the inner floor from moisture) or must it be laid along the entire depth of the slab?
2. When the gravel is laid, does it need to be compacted with something like a compactor, or is it enough to fill and tamp it down? The width of the excavation is about 1 meter; I wouldn’t want to wake up with the pathway shifted 3 meters.  ;)
3. Some recommend Isodrän over Platon; is Isodrän overkill for this relatively simple operation?

Hello!
My recommendation is that you lay along the entire wall with isodrän. Why?
Well, Isodrän acts as an insulating factor; some say it raises the temperature by 2-4°C in, for example, the basement, which is quite significant for energy-saving purposes.

If you were to stop 30-40 cm below the ground surface, there is a risk that the water sinking along the wall will be absorbed by the wall, leading to an unnecessarily high moisture content.

I vouch for Isodrän even though regular platon works well to prevent water against the wall; I have it myself.

NO, you should not compact or pack the gravel along the wall; just fill it in and let it settle naturally. TIP: keep 30-40 cm against the house foundation with gravel or macadam, no garden plants or grass there.

I hope you got some tips.

Good luck
