Why should one use exterior gypsum board instead of wind barrier? The price difference is significant, so I want to know what advantages come with using exterior gypsum board. The work also becomes more difficult with exterior gypsum board. The exterior paneling will be set directly, so the function of being able to leave the gypsum board for 6 months doesn't benefit me.

In some wall constructions, the exterior gypsum is an important part of the structure, providing rigidity to the wall. When the wall is fully completed, it often gets its stiffness from boards on the inside, but the exterior gypsum may be needed to prevent collapse during the construction period.

When I built, I chose exterior plasterboard over wind-protection sheets. The reason was mainly to get a rigid and perpendicular construction from the start since I built entire wall sections lying down to then raise them. Additionally, the advantage of exterior plasterboard is that it provides sound insulation and fire protection. The downside is that it is quite labor-intensive, more complicated, and somewhat more expensive than wind-protection sheets. Moreover, exterior plasterboard is more sensitive to precipitation than wind-protection sheets.
My advice: if you need rigid walls immediately = exterior plasterboard. Otherwise, go for paper. I can state that handling the exterior plasterboard sheets was the absolute toughest task in the entire construction. A misery to carry a sheet with dimensions 1200 x 2700...

In prefabricated wall elements, the panels significantly stiffen the wall. However, the exterior gypsum is much more sensitive to precipitation and moisture than initially thought. Therefore, more designers are starting to prescribe glassrock "våtrumsgips" and many of the large construction companies are using GNU less frequently and have almost completely switched to glassrock.
