Hey

This weekend I'm going to start applying gypsum to the basement walls and need some tips.

I'm planning to spread it with a spatula and then create a pattern.

What consistency should the putty have to be easy to work with?
Which tool should I use to create patterns?
How should the plaster feel when I'm creating the pattern?

More questions to come.

like spackel.

yes, trowels, scoops, trowel board, brush and/or masonry brush. depends a bit on the pattern.
dries quickly, so don't wait too long

I think it's easiest to split it into two times. First, you fill it out and make it even and straight, then let it dry completely. Then you apply a new layer that you smooth out and when it has set, you take a float and some water and scrub the surface if you want a little life in it; otherwise, you smooth it with the steel.
