New mosaic to be installed above the kitchen counter in the apartment...
When the old tiles were removed, quite an uneven wall was left behind. The house is from the 1940s, and some of the plaster simply came off with the tiles. In some areas, it's just uneven, and in some places, there are holes or depressions up to 10mm deep.
I'm considering what type of mortar to use to level the wall. The requirement is that it should handle anything from minor unevenness (<1mm) to cavities (10mm). It doesn't need to be better than just making the mosaic look good. I would prefer to apply just one layer.
I initially thought about using some plaster I had at home but realized it might not be suitable for thin layers. I went to the big hardware store, and they suggested I use Casco "husfix" - some type of repair mortar. I don't trust them at all, so now I'm asking the real experts.
Does husfix work?
What other types of mortar could work?
Thanks a lot!
