Hello,

I need to repair some loose plaster in my basement. The plaster has come loose due to moisture. It's now been drained and the walls are dry (I hope). It's in the garage under the house, so it doesn't have to be "perfect." I believe it's cement plaster now.

I've read here on the forum and can't figure out if you can use gypsum plaster (e.g., Maxit Gypsum) or if you should use repair mortar. Husfix is probably out because of the price...

Has anyone used gypsum plaster in a basement with good results? It seems much easier to work with than, for example, repair mortar.

Grateful for tips.

Hydraulic lime mortar, available at Bauhaus, works very well.

We usually use Gypsum. It adheres well and is easy to use even for the untrained. Remove all loose material and spray a little water (like with a plant sprayer) so it adheres well.

Used Gypsum and had it in a few rooms in the basement for over 4 years now with good results (painted with Latex 7 paint directly as well)

However, drained/insulated externally before.
