I am renovating an old (1930) cowshed in Skåne and unfortunately, I am a beginner with stone houses. The interior paint and plaster layer are in very poor condition, so I will remove all the plaster. Underneath is a fairly coarse structure that I interpret as some form of old coarse cement. Additionally, there are some deeper "damages." The framework is most likely granite. It will become a horse stable, and I am talking about the interior.
How can I know if lime mortar was used previously?
Should I/must I use lime mortar?
If so, what are the pros and cons?
If not lime mortar, should I plaster with mortar B and how thick can the layers be?
Do I need to use mesh if the layers become thicker, or can I plaster several thinner layers?
Additionally, above the load-bearing beams, clay bricks have been used which now more resemble earth. If these are kept and plastered over - what kind of mortar should be used?
Many questions about the same topic - grateful for help.
