I'm planning to plaster over this dreadful fake brick wall that's been put on the chimney. But I'm wondering what kind of mortar I should use? I have some sort of cement mortar that was used to touch up the wall during drainage last summer, would it work here? Or is it too coarse and hard? It would be nice to use up some of what we have at home. I'm going to have a stove insert in the fireplace, but I assume this wall won't get terribly hot? What do you think? I'm completely new to this, so I need some advice.

  • A fake brick wall on a chimney breast, with a visible opening for a fireplace insert, possibly intended for plastering over.

Ordinary C-puts is fine! That is, what you buy as plaster mortar.

If the wall gets really hot, it might be good to use a plaster mesh to avoid cracks when burning.

Or plaster if it doesn't get hot...
