Hello

I have 2 new basement windows but they are slightly smaller than the previous openings. I'm currently plastering the inside. Is there any sensible solution to plaster above the window? I would prefer not to have a gypsum box that doesn't connect with the rest.

The outside is already plastered (unfortunately). There's some kind of plasterboard like EPS and plaster mesh.

  • A newly installed basement window smaller than the opening, with surrounding rough plaster work visible inside.
Screw on a suitable gypsum board and plaster on it, apply a flexible sealant against the reveal?

And if you want to reach the same level as the remaining wall and connect the plaster surfaces? Just extend with studs?

I suppose so. But, there will probably be a lot more light coming in if you leave it as it is?

Well, a little maybe, but I think it would look nicer to have it more like "normal" frames.

Tried with a plaster box but it looks ridiculous‍:(

  • Window with a Norgips drywall frame, unfinished wall, and exposed insulation above. A level tool rests on the window sill.
oh well, if you then polish that, it shouldn't look strange, right? However, I don't know how to make the joint in the plaster so it doesn't crack, there should probably be some mesh there actually, but the wall is already plastered.

Was thinking if you would have had the plaster box right up and down. It didn't turn out nicely. Yes, if you can plaster it together, it might be okay, but as you say, especially with the seam. I suspect you have to knock down a bit of plaster and add some plaster mesh over there if so. But it still feels a bit prone to cracking?!

Wouldn't it become "crack-prone" if you just apply a millimeter of plaster directly onto the wooden reveal?
Or how have you done it there?
What's the plan? Do you want the reveal in wood? And shouldn't it in that case follow the window all around?
