Realizing late that the deck floor is finished with pressure-treated 28 x 120 boards and a properly framed base underneath. Now we have decided to build a roof as well, and the outer beam will rest on laminated timber posts 115x115. Now to the question, the idea was to place them on top of the finished floor, but as mentioned, laminated timber will absorb water that remains. The idea is that it should last at least 15 years.
The roof will be polycarbonate with a 3.5 m pitch.
What should I do now?

Anders

Can't you loosen a board where the post is supposed to stand?

Place a pallet collar under the post.

Exciting, I've never seen these before but it could be an option.

Yes, I'm considering removing a couple and reinforcing with an extra beam. Then you can probably place the post there, suddenly got decision anxiety about what's best.

It is not suitable to place glulam posts directly on the decking. The load on a post can be quite substantial. It can also become a matter of stability. Typically, the post stands on its own foundation.
