Hello,

What do you think about this? Pipe insulation around pipes that feed the radiators on the upper floor. I was mostly wondering if they could be asbestos.

(Built in '53, original since then, these are in a slit and the photo is taken from an inspection hatch.)

  • Insulated pipes behind an inspection hatch in a 1953 house, showing potential asbestos material.
  • Insulation around pipes from 1953, possibly containing asbestos, visible in an inspection hatch.
In the picture, it looks like mineral wool with gypsum bandages around it, but it's not uncommon to have asbestos in bends and branches where it's difficult to apply the wool. However, it's harmless as long as you don't plan to remove the pipes.

Thank you. The pipe insulation is slightly damaged here and there, even in some bends and connections. Do you think it can release fibers even if you are not there and tampering with it?

No.

Hey! If the insulation is cracked so that the asbestos is exposed, it deteriorates, for example, when opening and closing doors. Running past so it creates a draft.

Depending on how damaged the insulation is, of course.
Best regards
