Flat garage roof with new felt. Sensitive felt, things sink into it. So placing joists on the felt feels dangerous.

I'm considering whether to remove the sheets from the outer edge and place joists on top.

If I do this, I need to build in more timber so there's more than just a thin board to screw into.

Some pictures might make the question clearer.

How would you do it to minimize the risk of damaging the felt in the future?

I would have used wider studs like 2"6 and placed them on the felt, with a contact surface of 6" I don't think the felt will be damaged, it should withstand quite a bit to handle being on a roof actually.

It's too much work to lift off the sheets and place the studs underneath.
If the stud is to lie under the sheet but on top of the felt, you'll also have problems sealing between the stud/sheet exactly where you DON'T want sealing problems on a house.
