If building a deck, but not attaching the ledger board to the wall and having the entire deck on posts. How close to the foundation should/must the post be for it to be good?

I have 2 wooden decks and a terrace.
All are standing on paving stones that are laid as evenly as possible.
I guess the same applies if you are going to dig pilings.
Probably doesn't make much difference to the mm.

Where in the country do you live then? Have you encountered any disadvantages with having them only on slabs?

I've also considered that model since we have a brick house and the foundation is quite shallow.

Norrbotten.
No, no problems.
At home, because we have a wooden deck, I've just dug away the topsoil which was only a few centimeters deep before clay came, so I put sand instead.
At the vacation house where the deck is about cm high, it's directly on the ground, the soil is so hard there that it doesn't move in the slightest.

I live on a ridge, so the water flows through pretty quickly so I personally think there shouldn't be a risk of frost heaving either.
