Hello! I've partially demolished and drilled substantial holes in a ceiling in my condominium. For renovation. It got dusty as hell. Without a face mask. The association placed radon detectors in November. I'm worried about the negative impact of the dust cloud on my girlfriend. The apartment was covered in a ton of dust.
My question to all construction-savvy chiefs, bosses, and kings. How common is it for the ceiling to be made of blåbetong?
The residence was built during the years when blåbetong was hot on the market.
It was extremely difficult to drill. So I console myself with the thought that it can't be blåbetong/lightweight concrete.
What characterizes blåbetong? I'm afraid my girlfriend will get sick in the lungs and crap has gathered there. The anxiety is high.

If it was so hard to drill, then it wasn't blue concrete but "regular" concrete. Blue concrete or lightweight concrete is so soft that you can more or less push in a screwdriver by hand.
It's mostly common in walls, although it can be found in joists.
It's not the dust itself that is a concern like asbestos, but the radiation that, for example, a wall can emit. It's important to remember that gamma radiation is naturally around us all the time.
The fact that they've placed out devices isn't unusual; it's done periodically to, among other things, measure how much natural radiation is emitted from, for example, the mountain/soil the house stands on.
So stay calm and have a good Valentine's evening.

The ceiling is rock hard. There's an apartment above. It was really hard to drill. It gives this stone sound when you knock, no sound. So probably regular concrete?

It is then made of "real" concrete.
Stop worrying about it.
Instead, learn that next time you should rent a construction vacuum cleaner and get a breathing mask for each person who will be in the room while you are working.
(a regular vacuum cleaner will spray out some of the dust from the other end)
+ it's easier with the cleaning afterward if you have a helper vacuuming at the same time as you are drilling.
It is then made of "real" concrete.

Once again, aerated concrete is so soft that you can saw through it with a handsaw and push a screwdriver into it. So it is NOT blåbetong if you had such a hard time drilling into it, and it is normally not used in intermediate floors.
I largely agree with Oceanis's statement but ask myself why it would be so impossible to use blåbetong in intermediate floors???oceanis said:
Blåbetong, as I understand it, was a competitor/alternative to lightweight concrete (siporex), and siporex had elements that were used as intermediate floors (at least in villas). Could it not be that manufacturers of blåbetong also had the same products for competitive reasons? (Note I have no idea, but it should be likely???

If it is hard as stone and requires a percussion drill, it is not blåbetong in the ceiling.
But blåbetong can be present in the intermediate floor in the ceiling, but then it is soft. Correctly understood?
