Panel in staircase between floor and basement ceiling
We are in the process of renovating the surfaces in and around our staircase down to the basement. Now I would like some suggestions on what to put on the part between the floor of the level and the ceiling of the basement. How should I explain? If you imagine the opening in the floor that constitutes the hole in the floor down to the basement. You can put some kind of panel or boards on that part in between. Currently, there are some crooked chipboards painted with ugly drips. What is most common to put there? Is it understandable what I mean? This is the problem with being a "home amateur," not knowing what some construction terms are called. What I'm describing surely has a name. Anyway, it looks ugly now. And I want to tidy it up.
Will
Yes!
That's what I want to cover with new material anyway. Can MDF work? Or what will look the best? Anything will be better than how it looks now, anyway. Some real amateur carpenter with bad eyesight did this
At the same time, a 70s-style lattice sits on these panels. We are now replacing this with a New York railing from Lundbergs.

I can't quite decide if the posts for the railing should be placed on the floor completely in line with the panel, which we will now call the joist cladding
Or if the posts should be placed a bit away. There will still be a small edge of the floor visible since the bottom rail of the railing is 50 mm and the posts are 66 mm. So some trim will be needed, and some latex caulk here and there in various gaps and transitions.

how did it go with this bjälklagsinklädnad. I have the same problem. I would like to clad with oak panel. It's such a small amount that's needed. But I can't find any oak panel. Does anyone have any tips?
