Hello,
I have sanded the floor in the basement in preparation for laying tiles. However, some of these spaces have a cast ledge that is painted. I couldn't reach it with the flex. How could one dull it since it was extremely hard to chisel away? I was thinking about laying tiles as close as possible and then painting it instead. How would you have done it? Tips appreciated.
Concrete step with paint spots in a basement, partially sanded surface, adjacent to a wall.

Hello! So you actually want to remove it? It can certainly be chiseled away if you want. What kind of machine did you have? Maybe you just need to rent a bigger one.

Are you sure it's not part of a footing under the wall?

Yes, quite sure as you can see it from the side that it is applied after the floor. They made those when there was a risk of moisture. There is one like that in the old garage section too (underground today).

I only used a Makita with a chisel. Yeah, I wish I could have avoided it if I knew it would just come loose and not leave a hole like that.

This I removed with the Makita:crysmile:

I have no idea if it is or not. But it looks just like you said, it's cast afterward.

Yes, old concrete can be incredibly hard. Rent a Hilti 1000 and it will be gone in no time. There's a risk it might chip in some places, but you can just patch it up with Ardex A31 or something similar, which dries quickly so you can lay tiles afterward (y). It's probably best to remove it now, or it will likely just bother you later.

Yes, it will probably be so..might have to use a 50mm chisel then.

Yes, they might be smart. You usually get a narrow and a wider screwdriver so you can try and see. Good luck!
