Why don't more people use water-repellent breathable wind barriers (polypropylene etc) instead of exterior gypsum? It is much easier to handle and seems to work excellently! Probably cheaper too!

Last time I checked, the roll-out wind barrier was much more expensive than gypsum. So the answer is probably that simple!

how can gypsum be cheaper than wind barrier paper?

It is possible to lower the price on duk. For me, it became the same price on duk as asfaboard and duk is "somewhat" more convenient.

I don't know. I seem to recall that it was Icopal Vindy I was looking at and it was expensive. But maybe my memory is failing?

Paperboard (AC350) is cheap, but here we were talking about the equivalent of Windy.

I give 9.19 SEK/sqm for Windy. :D

It seems crazy to lug up large, heavy drywall sheets, which are also sensitive to moisture, when you can just cover the house with an easy-to-handle fabric. Yet, drywall seems to be the most common choice. Strange!?

Some disadvantages of products like Windy?

Best regards
David

The outer gypsum can have a stabilizing effect before putting up the inner gypsum. This is mostly during the assembly phase and can be solved with diagonal braces as an alternative.

My outdoor gypsum (Norgips) has been up for over 2 years now and the only visible "issue" is a few black spots (mold) on the outer paper. However, I am taking it down and replacing it with new outdoor gypsum as the actual exterior panel goes up - feels better that way but it absolutely doesn't seem necessary.

Does it withstand water like outdoor plaster does?

8) Absolutely! :D

I spoke with Gyproc and our supplier today about this, and it seems we will go with the new version of U-gips after all. It's more stable than Windy, and since the surface is smoother than the old U-gips, there shouldn't be any problems.

Best regards,
David

::) If you have weak wall studs, you should go for gypsum. ;D

Who needs studs? We'll glue the facade directly onto the insulation. 8)

David
