We are currently building a garage. What should be "next to the outermost" under the panel, outdoor gypsum or asfaboard? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
I advocate gypsum -
* Windproof
* Diffusion open (breathes)
* Stiffens the construction
* Sound insulating
* Fireproof
Regarding asfaboard, I'm not quite sure, but I assume that the first three points also apply to it...

You can use either. The first four advantages Elvis lists also apply to asfaboard. Additionally, the asfaboard is lighter (in terms of weight) to work with and it's more durable, it won't break into pieces if you happen to drop a sheet during installation.
However, the gypsum is more fire-resistant. What difference this makes in practice, I do not know.
