I have searched a bit on the forum but mostly found references to using OSB in walls and floors.
What I am wondering is how well it is suited for things like boxes to store power tools. I have never used it myself and thought it should work just as well as plywood for similar things but at a cheaper price.

The OSB is not as "compact" as plywood. Sure, you can make boxes from it, but it might not be quite as good. It's also difficult to smooth out the OSB and achieve the same nice finish. If you're unlucky when screwing into OSB, it might not hold properly either, it's a bit "crunchy," so to speak.
not recommended, use plyfa instead
Exactly, look at how the OSB board looks on the edge, completely useless for screwing in.imported_Anders_S said:

But of course, you can still build boxes.
I assume you already have "leftover" OSB boards you were planning to make boxes from.
- Since it's not great to screw into the edge of an OSB board, you can place a triangular strip in the inner corners which you then screw the walls into (from the outside). + glue.
Don't forget about the screw; it's important to have the right type so you avoid cracking when tightening.
Make sure it has a groove on the underside of the head, it will secure itself. There are a few different designs. One is a chipboard screw, and the other is a deck screw. Don't forget wood glue.

If you don't want to pay Essve, you can find these at Biltema (but you get what you pay for).
If you don't have a board at home and need to buy materials for box making, I wouldn't recommend OSB either.
