Hello
I am wondering if it is possible to make a narrow (and quite low) opening under a staircase. The staircase is an indoor staircase and is located in the basement.
Is there any obstacle due to the staircase?
Does the staircase lose its stability or load-bearing capacity because an opening is made?
Thanks
Åsa

The staircase is usually attached to the wall, but depending on the width of the hole, it might work.

Thank you
It's good if the stairs haven't fallen down ha ha
I was thinking about approximately 80 cm so that sounds to me like it should work.

How is the wall constructed?
It probably makes a difference whether it is a wooden frame construction or if it is built with lecablock bricks.

According to the drawing, it is a non-load-bearing wall made of Leca-stone. 19 cm thick.

Since it is a masonry wall, you may need to support it even though it is not load-bearing. It can collapse under its own weight, but you just need to insert an angle iron on each side at the top of the opening.

Oh thank you Matti_75, that was very valuable to know. Then we will make sure to solve this the right way.
