Opening in reinforced concrete floor slab
Hello,
I'm considering creating an opening in a concrete floor slab. The opening is 2x3 meters for a staircase and is located in the middle of the slab. The structural engineer recommends a couple of posts. But after some research, I'm thinking about making a concrete/rebar collar instead (lower stresses). I prefer this over carbon fiber.
The rebar for the collar should be welded to the "stumps" or the slab's rebar. I've read quite a bit about the rebar weakening with welding. Is this okay? I'm also considering screwing the new rebar into the concrete.
There are load-bearing walls under the slab about 1-2 meters around the opening, so I'm not particularly worried. The opening will reduce the load on the slab by over 1000 kg (removed concrete portion).
Is there anything specific I should consider?
Grateful for input...

Why don't you check with the structural engineer you are already in contact with? They have already seen how it looks in reality, and you also need calculations from the engineer for the building permit.
Absolutely! I will do that. I was just wondering if anyone in the forum had any opinions.BirgitS said:
