Hello everyone!
I have searched the forum without finding an answer to this... We have a house from '53 that is partly built with an old timber frame, and the basement is concrete. Now we want to open up an existing hole in a wall (see attached image) in the timber frame in a load-bearing wall.
We don't want to widen the opening, just let it go down to the floor to create a passage between the rooms. Is there any risk in opening downwards in a load-bearing wall in this case when there is already an opening? On the floor below (basement) it is concrete.

shouldn't really be a problem, but you can always stamp up right next to it BEFORE you start sawing, and then I would probably put up some standing ones like, 95x95 on the sides of the opening that can stay there... possibly you'll have to saw a little wider then.....
