I am in the initial phase of rebuilding an old stable that requires a lot of commitment. To pull together rotten timber walls, I'm using guide rods with threaded rods, for example. But I need quite a few screws before the project is complete, ideally a bunch of solid torx like 8.0 x 300 or something for the framework, some more common torx for other things, then all the regular chipboard screws and drywall screws will be needed later on. I would like to make a substantial order to have most things, but I have no idea where to shop online to get good prices. A few years ago, I knew about an affordable German store whose name I can't remember. Searching for wood screws on eBay gives 1,883,557 hits and it's not easy to find what you want.

Solid torx screws are expensive, so it would be great to save a couple of thousand crowns. Any tips or should I just tell the local Bauhaus to order them in?

I have tried some cheap wood and decking screws with less than satisfactory results, screws that are soft, the bit fitting is too shallow so the bits easily spin, screws that break after a couple of seasons, etc. etc. I use Essve screws for 99% of my projects, and so far I have been satisfied and believe you get what you pay for. If there is a cheap screw close to Essve quality, I am very interested.

I prefer V/S/B smooth with a smaller head than ESSVE, but that's a matter of taste. I've only found one store with a good range of these. It's not very cheap but probably beats XL without a discount.

Are they available in 8x300?

A quick question. What do you need such monster screws for?

I just guessed that dimension; I need some large ones around 2-300 to fasten the frame (old rotten timber frame). I've cut away a destroyed joint, and I'll screw a post into the end grain, so I want deep penetration. I'm handling most of it with threaded rod to pull the timber tightly together but also want to screw. I wasn't looking for anything specific, just a well-sorted online store with favorable prices.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check out the links.

If you are going to have such a large amount that you can save thousands by shopping cheaply, it is definitely worth requesting quotes from the hardware stores.

Jula unfortunately often runs out of just 6x120 in their recurring offers with screws in boxes and, unlike Biltema, they don't have in-store collection, instead they operate "Drive In" from the Skara warehouse. So it becomes a bit inconvenient if you're hesitant to go in. Is there any place online that sells Hecos or equivalent screws for similar prices - 249 kr for 300 pieces? I feel like I've Googled quite a bit but come up short on this. Amazon.de might have some but the good offers there often don't deliver to Sweden. :lying:
