Now, I don't know if the terminology is correct, but I'm curious about the normal distance between posts that support the longitudinal beams along the roof that support the second floor. Did that make sense? The beam has the dimensions 175x40 mm when I measure (possibly 175x45?). How much does it normally bend downward under the load?

The wall studs are normally (in somewhat modern houses) spaced 60 or 45cm apart. The beam you are talking about is (I think) the top plate and/or load-bearing beam. It bends down insignificantly because otherwise you get cracks in the wall. Or do you mean the floor joists? See here for terminology: http://www.traguiden.se/TGtemplates/popup1spalt.aspx?id=1324&contextPage=5937 (There is lots of info there for the curious. Just go back a couple of steps.)
