Hello everyone!
First time writing here but I've read quite a bit over the years. Not sure if this is the right subforum, but let's give it a try!

Wondering how we can best conceal the frame/outlet attached. The best would be a non-permanent solution, i.e., it can be unscrewed if needed. The alternative to completely hiding the outlet is to conceal the frame around it, i.e., make it look more like a right-angled rectangle (plastic rails?).

My own idea is to mount a cover over it like this: https://www.hornbach.se/shop/Doslock-ELKO-for-dubbeldosa-1420352/6644277/artikel-detaljer.html

The dimensions are 10x15x3 WxHxD (cm).

What do you think?

Thanks in advance!

  • A wall outlet with a white cable and exposed frame behind a cut-out panel, seeking a non-permanent cover solution to hide or reshape the outlet's appearance.
  • Built-in shelf with a square opening in the back showing a socket and electrical cord; discussion on how to conceal it efficiently.
If it's so important to hide it (in a cabinet?), I would probably have chosen to make a full back panel that matches the same dimensions as the inside of the cabinet.... Placed two strips at the edges and just slid it in...

This is not a bad idea! However, I wonder if there isn't a simpler way to hide it. Hide might be the wrong choice of word, as we mainly want to tidy it up a bit; since it's in a cabinet, it doesn't need to be perfect, just something that either covers just the square part or if there's something that can be attached around it (e.g., a plastic frame, if available?) to hide the unsightly cut-out of the back.

Glue a plastic box of suitable size and color over the hole

Hello
Since the plug does not go very far into the cabinet, maybe you have some "narrow, slightly taller packaging like an empty rice package or so that you can cut a hole in the back and then just place it in the cabinet. If you understand what I mean

This is exactly what we've been considering ourselves! That is, some plastic-like object that is easy to screw in and requires no carpentry work. The closest "ready-made" (i.e., nice-looking) solution would then be the socket cover from Hornbach, but the question is if there is anything else at the hardware store that is even better suited for the purpose?

What do you have in the cabinet then? I mean, what causes you to have to keep it hidden? All the other outlets in the house that are visible?

It's a bathroom cabinet, so various bathroom products.
The reason for it to be hidden (at least around the frame) is purely for aesthetic reasons.
To clarify, it's not the actual wall outlet that we primarily want to hide, but the ugly cut-out frame in the wood panel around the wall outlet.

Buy a moderately sized photo frame at Ikea, in any design of your choice, simple white if you're a bit more anonymous, gold-colored with faux wood carving if you want it to stand out a bit, and glue over...

Good suggestion but don't glue, just place it in front. You might need to unplug it, and in that case, glued is not so good.

The idea was, of course, to keep the hole in the frame open, and just hide the "ugly edge"...

Fantastic. Here we have it! Picture frame, why didn't we think of that? Sometimes things turn out so well when you get a bigger perspective on the problem. The gold-colored version, however, I'm a bit unsure about:rofl:

I know there will be double replies in a row, but I couldn't edit the post above.
Now we know how to proceed in any case, thanks to you for the thought-provoker!

Passepartout! Looks really nice around the "frame" and doesn't really disturb since they are so thin, so awesome!
