Nail panels - here's an app to help you count
A "problem" that often arises when nailing panels is to get even gaps between the boards so that you don't have to split the last board. I have developed an "app" that helps with this.
It works like this:
Mount the first and last board on the house wall, meaning the first and last bottom board before the corner board. Measure the c/c distance between these.
1 - Set the width of the bottom boards
2 - Set the width of the covers
3 - Set the desired overlap. This is how much the cover should lie over the bottoms (total on both sides)
4 - Enter the outer boards' c/c measurement.
5 - If it is a gable peak; enter the roof slope.
Click on "Each board" or "Every 5th board"
You will now get a calculation of how large the gap between each bottom board should be to ensure it ends evenly when you reach the end of the wall, for example, 88.3 mm. You will also get a calculation of how many boards are needed for the wall, how much longer/shorter each board should be if you are making a gable peak, and a list with mm instructions so you can make markings on the wall to ensure you maintain the measurement.
Currently, this is a web application that is free to use/try but it may become a downloadable app for a small cost.

Feel free to try it out and let me know if there are any comments or bugs.

There is also this one. http://peo.yliniemi.se/fasad/
Hi, the overlap in your calculation method is the total overlap per bottom board, and according to the wood guide, the minimum overlap on each overlap between the bottom board and cover should be at least 20 mm. In other words, you should specify at least 40 mm overlap per bottom board in your calculation method.

One should also ensure that the casing becomes trim-forming around the window and doors so it doesn't look awkward there.
