Hi, I have a somewhat unusual question. I have an old log house that has been remodeled, so it's no longer visible, but I discovered when I checked with an indicator pen (the kind with a glowing tip) whether the 220 outlet was live during renovation that I got a reading in the outlet even though everything was disconnected, and also beside the outlet??
Upon further investigation, it turned out that the old timber in the house was what was causing the reading???!!! I truly don't understand, the new wood gave no reading, only the old wood, like from 1907. It's strong enough that I can find the old logs using the pen through the particleboard wall...
Any theories on this...
I don't know if this is the right forum, but if not, the admin can move me.

have tested on most things but it doesn't react to anything else, I should add that it is quite new and has new batteries..Immobil said:
bought one of those pens myself because it seemed convenient - Ended up in the trash pretty quickly as I don't think you can rely on it at all. Instead, I bought a Fluke T6, which I find incredibly handy, and so far it hasn't lied to me...
okay that may be so but it doesn't explain the phenomenon
