A sauna measuring about 2x2m will be built on these masonry pillars. I am in need of advice!

I've gotten the opportunity to build a sauna. It’s going to be really fun. One of the landowners has done the foundation themselves. However, I've never encountered pillars made of straight-up masonry bricks. My former supervisor and colleague said it works well. But. There are a few questions that Google can't answer. I believe you here have wise advice and perhaps someone else has encountered the same or similar situation?

How would you attach the bearer/sole in the masonry? The owner suggests you can just lay the joists directly on it. What do you say?

Should the bricks be plastered as protection against water/frost damage?

I will most likely need to shim up the construction. The owner also suggested this. Would you use such durable shims available on the market or just shim up with wood?

What are your thoughts and advice on the foundation and then the upcoming construction on top?

  • Brick pillars in a rocky outdoor setting for sauna construction, with wooden beams laid across. Surrounding trees and vegetation are visible.
  • Brick column foundation for a sauna under construction, surrounded by wooden planks and greenery.
Looks unstable to me, are there three pillars on rock and one on earth?

The foundation is one of the most important parts of a construction. That looks questionable.

I would have probably started over, at least the one in the ground. How deep is it dug beneath it, down to the rock?

Pure disaster I say, tear it down and redo it.

There will be a total of 6 pillars, and they will be anchored down to the rock. :/

It is dug down to the rock. I would like to redo it with standard cast cylinder pillars. We'll see how I can present that proposal.
