Hello!

I am planning to replace our old wardrobes with some newer and fresher PAX wardrobes.

But under the current wardrobe, there is no floor, so now I'm wondering if it's possible to lay new flooring with a few planks underneath and then place a new wardrobe on top. The new wardrobe will be wider and deeper.

So I'm wondering if it will be able to stand steadily as the picture below shows? It will mostly stand on the new floor and stick out a bit on the old one, so there will only be a few cm "gap" a little further into the wardrobe. How much space should I leave at the back of the new floor (for it to be able to move but still stand stable)? If anything is unclear, I'll see if I can clarify a bit.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to ByggaHus.
The easiest way is to buy a chipboard floor panel and place it where there is missing flooring. It would also work to position the new wardrobes, assemble them, and secure them to the wall.

I have the same type of flooring left over in the basement, but does it need to reach all the way to the edge? Or can there be a few cm gap?

A gap of a few cm doesn't matter for the wardrobe, but it might cause drafts on the floor?

From what I've googled, this is mainly a problem for houses built in the 1800s? The house here was built just before World War II.

You can fill the last centimeter with something else, plastic wrap, masonite board, or whatever you have available.

Drafts from the floor are not so much about age, but about how many gaps there are in the construction.
