The carpenter will soon come with the railing for the upper floor. I've chosen to wait to lay the flooring until the railing is in place. But I've started wondering now if that's the right decision, and I've been looking at a bunch of pictures online.
From what I can see in all the pictures, it seems like most people install the railing on top of the parquet. Can that really be correct? We will have parquet on the upper floor, and it's quite a large and open space, so there will be some movement between summer and winter. Isn't it wrong to install the railing on the parquet and clamp it down?
If you don't place the railing on the parquet but directly against the subfloor, would it look best with just a type of quarter-round moulding against the bottom rail of the railing? (everything will be oak)

otherwise, it looks quite nice if you mill out a groove on the lower part of the railing so you can slide the parquet underneath but still screw the railing into the chipboard or similar...
