We are going to renovate our hallway and have decided to "cheat" by installing wainscoting made of panel boards. The boards aren't very thick (6mm), so I was thinking of letting them meet the existing door frames.
But how do we solve the baseboard in the nicest way? I had the idea of placing the boards on top of the existing baseboards, but since the floor is a bit uneven, this will cause problems because I want to plumb the panel boards. There will be gaps in some places between the board and the baseboard where the floor is slanted. It doesn't seem like a viable option to have to fill in a lot of latex caulk in the gaps...
The other option is to remove both the baseboard and the molding, then install new moldings and trim them out. But if it's possible to solve it acceptably nicely with a simpler solution, I would gladly accept tips!
We will be installing either Brandén's board or the cheaper variant from Byggmax.
If you do it like this
Hope you see what I mean..
You make a simple tool as the picture shows, for the pencil..
Where I've marked in RED on the tool, this edge you hold against the floor molding
and then you copy the floor molding onto the board.. Brown line
Saw this neatly, put the board back and check that it fits..
Then you have the breast line to fit in, saw this straight and you have a plate
that fits both the top and bottom.
Eti..
