Moisture measurement in concrete - what does 2% mean?
I have a simple moisture meter at home, the kind with two pins that you press into the material you intend to test. I can initially admit that I realize this kind of meter is by no means exact and that measurements in concrete, in particular, should be performed in another way. Still, it might provide an indication, I think.
My meter indicates that when measuring in concrete or plaster, the measurement result is between 0.2 - 2%.
I now wonder, what do these 2% mean? That it is extremely damp? Is it the maximum? Why just these low percentage figures for concrete/plaster?
I have an exterior wall in the basement that around ground level and a bit below has been moderately damp in places, causing the paint on the wall to start peeling. I have now removed the paint and yesterday I measured between 1.2 - 2% on the wall at the level where moisture has affected the paint. In some places, the meter showed "OL" for Over Limit. Down at floor level, the moisture is around 0.5 - 0.6%.
Now this morning, after the paint was removed last night as mentioned, the measurements are down to about half the percentage compared to what I measured yesterday. But...when is the wall considered not so damp anymore? 1% or 0.5% or...? I understand 0 - 100% but not quite 0.2-2%.
