On the wall in the bedroom's closet, I discovered a small bulge in the plaster that immediately broke when I pressed lightly on it. The material behind was very porous and almost thread-like, so it’s not just the paint that's come off. The walls of the house are made of lightweight concrete that has been plastered and then painted. And on the other side of this wall is the bathroom, which makes me wonder if it could be an indication of water damage!?

We recently took over the property and just started renovating, so I have no idea how long this "bump" has been on the wall. If it is water damage, it is probably older since the bathroom was redone at least 10 years ago and the bathtub was replaced with a shower cabin, so that wall is no longer exposed to water. Next summer, we plan to renovate the bathroom, so we will likely find out for certain if it is old water damage. But should we immediately try to find out what it could be, or can we just fill the hole, paint the walls, and calmly wait until we renovate the bathroom?

A small bulge on a bedroom closet wall with cracked plaster, possibly indicating water damage. Cracked wall plaster in a closet, revealing porous material beneath. Possible indication of old moisture damage from adjacent bathroom.

If you're stressing about a blister in the plaster, you have a very nice house so take it easy. I see no reason to worry.
