Hi! We are in the process of renovating the living room. When we took down the shadow moldings, we found metal strips behind them that run along the entire ceiling. What could they be?

The ceiling is some kind of stretched paper, could it have to do with the suspension of it?

The house was built in 1921 but the room has surely been renovated a few times since then.

Attachment of the woven ceiling, be careful not to cause a small damage to the weave, as it can cause the entire ceiling to crack. If you are not replacing the ceiling, let it be and put back a trim that covers everything. It is fastened to the wall. Not too much banging and rattling on the metal profile.

Thanks for the reply! We will try to keep the ceiling if possible. However, there is an existing hole in one corner, about 3 cm in diameter. Is it possible to repair this and how would one proceed?

You can use newspaper or makulatur. Tear a suitably sized piece with rough edges. Adhere the paper with wallpaper paste and let it dry. Then paint the repair with oil paint and let it dry. Then paint the entire ceiling.
