What do you think this material is?

Found behind layers of old wallpaper. Some kind of wallboard, I think...
Crumbly.

Could it be a regular old drywall?
I think so when I see sort of "air bubbles" in the white material, and it also looks like the white material is attached to a brownish "paper." Don't drywall panels look like that? White gypsum in the middle and sort of paper around?

Isn't it more likely that it's a drywall panel than that they used to manually plaster up a wall? (I can't remember what it's called when you do that...) Considering that the brown ("paper") seems to be directly attached to the white (gypsum?).

Asbestos risk? If so, in the white (gypsum?) or in the brown (paper?).

Close-up of two pieces of crumbly material on pink paper, possibly old plasterboard with a white, porous center and brownish edges resembling paper.

Clear plaster.

Thank you huggan!

I asked about this here on the forum a year ago, but can't find the old post and don't really remember the answers either. The question has come up again, so I'm asking it again now.

I remember someone who answered back then said that he thought "the brown" didn't look like the usual brown that is around plasterboards. He suggested that the brown in my pictures seemed to contain fibers of some kind, like wood fibers, cellulose, or asbestos. But, I think: can't the brown around plasterboards come in different thicknesses and appearances over time? I've tried googling for images online, but haven't found anything clear. Do you know?

Do you, or anyone else, think that the brown in my pictures could be the usual brown that surrounds plasterboards?
Or do you think my wall is instead about someone having applied gypsum plaster and then added some thin brown material on top, to get a smooth and wallpaperable wall?

Thanks in advance!

Shades, of course, vary from year to year and also between manufacturers. Today, most are gray, but if you tear off the outer paper, which often happens when you remove wallpaper or plastic carpets, the paper behind is brown.
