Hi!

I have built a wood-fired sauna and plan to build red brick around the stove as fire protection. For the floor/slab under the stove, I am considering either pouring concrete or also using red brick there. The question is whether I need to place something between the waterproof membrane and the concrete/brick? It feels wrong to lay the mortar directly on the membrane! I would appreciate any suggestions??

Hello.

I would probably try to break up the carpet there... for 2 reasons...
1: To prevent moisture from traveling from floor to wall.
2: Because, suppose you want to replace the carpet in a few years... it will be tricky to cut neatly and also to fit a new carpet tightly to the old existing one that is then under the brick...
