What are the pros and cons of using Masonite boards instead of gypsum for interior walls?

Masonite is wood, i.e., living, so it might move more than the non-living gypsum?

10mm Masonite versus 13mm gypsum... Which dampens sound the most?

How did it happen that they stopped using Masonite in constructions, was it just the economic aspect or what happened that caused the change?

One reason could be that it is a lot of work to put "masonit" or board in place properly since it has to be wetted and nailed quite closely.

9.6 mm Masonite should not be wetted, it's the thin 3.2 mm that was previously used on board walls. It was dampened before it was nailed in place, then it shrank and the wall became flat. 9.6 mm Masonite is used in the same way as, for example, chipboard.

Gypsum is very good from a fire protection point of view...

That you don't wet the thicker one was new info, but it's still nailed for sure, right? And a big disadvantage with hard board is that it's a hassle to put anything up on it since you need the big hammer to make a small hole. With gypsum, you just poke it with something sharp.
