Installation of drywall on ceilings of "masonite boards"
Hi, I recently bought a house from -75 where the ceiling in the bedrooms is the same as in this thread:
https://www.byggahus.se/forum/threads/montera-faesta-reparationsgips-pa-innertak-av-masonit.306420/
I have the same thoughts about putting drywall on the ceiling and am considering installing battens under the existing ceiling. The rafters are set with 1200 cc spacing, and I wonder if the battens can handle that distance without sagging down once the drywall is on? Since that thread doesn't have a real conclusion showing the result, I have two questions.
1: Has anyone succeeded in attaching drywall directly to such a ceiling by fastening the drywall to the panels?
2. Will it work to lower the ceiling by installing battens under the existing one to use only the rafters as a mounting point for the battens?
Best regards,
DK

If the glesen is screwed into the rafters, you can hang drywall without any problem. Supplement with construction adhesive between the gles and the masonite and between the drywall and the gles if you are concerned.
But then is 1200 cc not enough distance for the joists to be able to flex downwards with plasterboard mounted on them? Because the idea is to lower the ceiling enough (about 50mm) so that there is room for a ceiling box in the center of the room, as currently there are two since it used to be two bedrooms and is now one large one.
Sorry for a delayed response 😊

Then you still need double spacing in both directions. Or go for 45 degrees.
