Hello!

I'm thinking of building in our wardrobes (will need to trim a few cm off the depth of the existing frames). However, I'm unsure how to create an "extension" of the straight wall. How do I do this in the best way? The wardrobe doors are 50cm. The width where another door is intended is about 60cm, hence 10cm wall/filler piece.

I've also painted one of the pictures (very preschool level) so you understand how I'm thinking.

Red = shelves
Yellow = door
Green = wall/filler piece

A white wardrobe next to a light-colored wall corner with wooden floorboards. A wardrobe positioned snugly against a wall corner with white trim on top, highlighting the need for a wall extension in a home renovation project. White wardrobes in a room corner with visible space between the cabinet and wall; context suggests plans for wall extension and cabinet integration. Section of a wall corner next to a wardrobe, with visible crown molding, where an extension is planned for a closet integration project.

  • Wardrobes with colorful outlines; red for shelves, yellow for door, and green for wall extension plan.

The easiest is to buy cover panels which you then saw to the right width and attach to the frame and wall. Another option is to extend the wall with plasterboard and studs the needed 10 cm, then fill and paint. You can do the same above the wardrobes. Ceiling and baseboards can continue over the wardrobes to make them look even more built-in.

Remove the side of the wardrobe and place a post at the back and one where the door attaches. Saw shelves that fill out the entire space, i.e., the existing wardrobe and the nook next to it. Then put a board in front of the opening on the nook and over the wardrobes (if you sacrifice that part and don't put doors all the way up). Since the shelves probably can't be moved, you can attach the board to the post and some of the shelves/shelf supports.

Alternatively, just put doors in front of the whole space and custom-sized shelves in the right section.
