We have extensive plans to move our kitchen from its current location to the adjacent dining room. The only thing that can actually cause major concerns (so far...) is that the (load-bearing) brick wall between the rooms is at least 30 cm thick! The house is a stone house from the 1910s, and those who have been inside such a house on the lower floors know which walls I'm talking about. The actual pipe installations, etc., will be done by a qualified professional, but we have to solve making a hole in the wall for these pipes to go through ourselves. The question now is how? I'm not even clear on how these walls are constructed. Are they solid with just layer upon layer of bricks? If that's the case, the method of "picking out" bricks becomes quite troublesome, and the hole will be much larger than necessary. We would prefer not to make a larger hole than necessary to avoid major measures to reinforce the wall...
Is it perhaps a better alternative to drill? That is, hire someone to drill, since I find it hard to see how one could manage to drill such a deep and wide hole with DIY equipment.
It becomes further complicated considering that the hole preferably should be below floor level, in the subfloor. This is to avoid pipes sticking up from the floor in the old kitchen.
Thoughts and ideas are gladly received!
 
Knock out the stones and set the pipes in place. Then you can split the removed stones and mortar them around the pipes.
 
I am very new to the field so excuse me if I ask a dumb question here, but won't there be a very big hole initially since it's likely several "layers" of brick and the joints likely "overlap" each other?... I don't know if it's understandable what I mean but the point is that I obviously don't want to risk removing so much that it affects the load-bearing capacity.

You do need a fairly robust machine for it though. SDS Max is usually required...

Alternatively, you can buy a smaller diamond hole saw, drill as deep as it goes, chip out the "core" in the hole, then go in with the hole saw again, chisel, and keep doing that until you're through. That's how I went through a brick wall; it takes a while, but it works... I bought a cheap diamond kit from Jula that held up...
 
Is it hot water + cold water + drainage? How long distances? What dimension does the drainage need to be? Drilling for water pipes (10-15 mm) can typically be managed with a regular hammer drill. If you have the opportunity to place an access panel at the current location, you might be able to have a slightly smaller drainage pipe for the last bit too. Drilling in brick is the hardest part to get it straight over longer distances, not finding tools that can handle it.

It is possible to knock out stone by stone, but it simplifies significantly if you break stones that are bonded inside the outermost ones. If you take down two stones one above the other, it's quite easy to knock out the joints and remove the stones. Once you've gotten through, you place the pipes you want through the wall and then mortar back the stones needed to make the wall tight again.
 
I think I'll try to remove the stones myself. If it turns out to be more difficult than I thought, then I'll have to find someone who can drill a hole instead, or alternatively provide me with equipment!
