Hello forum.

I've renovated our upper floor, but there's a bit left to do.

Baseboards, floor, stair railing, etc.

Now to the question. I've been eyeing the Lundbergs stair railing series New York or alternatively Helsinki. How difficult are these to install and get them right? I'm planning to do this while the family is away so that no one falls when the railing is removed. I want to angle the railing to get more "air" in the room on the small projection. The previous railing went straight into the wall. What do you think?

"How difficult is it?" is quite a difficult question. But if you have normal dexterity, it's not too difficult, and there are decent instructions that show how to do it. As with most things, it's important to be careful and methodical.

I don't understand what you mean by wanting to angle the railing, can you elaborate?

Yes, I agree, maybe a stupid question. I'm handy with most things, it was mostly about whether it's tricky since the top rail and so on need to be cut to exact lengths, but I think I can manage it.

Regarding the angle, the current railing goes into the wall, meaning there's a “floor piece” that you can't reach because the railing is in the way. The idea is to run the railing around the opening instead. That is, where the lamp is now, I was thinking of placing the railing in front instead of straight into the wall.

If you can, for example, nicely install trim around a door, then you can also manage to build a railing.

I agree with you that the railing should follow the staircase opening. It becomes a hard-to-utilize space in any case, but I think it looks more proper.
