Hello I have a small winter project, I am planning to convert the recreation room into a home theater room. A projector and a 120" screen have been acquired.

I also plan to lower the ceiling by about 5-10cm to hide the ugly concrete ceiling, conceal electrical and projector/network cables, and at the same time, install LED spotlights. The problem is that I have windows at ceiling height. Does anyone have tips for a stylish solution? See attached image!

  • Two windows at ceiling height with pink curtains and a lamp, showing potential challenges for ceiling installation in a home theater renovation project.
I would have let the ceiling extend to the niche and possibly placed an angled panel between the window and ceiling.

Seen a room similar to yours where the ceiling was lowered about 5cm up to the wall and then sloped up in the frame to the original level. Five cm at that depth should work. In old buildings with thick foundation walls, it is not uncommon for rooms fully below ground level to have light shafts that go up like a tube.

Yes, that sounds like a convenient solution. I googled a bit but couldn't find any pictures of how it could look. It would be good to see pictures of some who have used this solution.

Can't you link some pictures? :)

You might be able to save a frame around that is not lowered and work with some exciting lighting solutions in the frame? This picture happens to be from a bathroom but you get the idea. An LED strip with warm dimmable light could be a nice detail in a home theater room.

LED strip lighting installed along the ceiling and wall corner in a tiled bathroom, creating a warm, ambient glow.
