Hello

One part of the house was built in the 20s or 30s and we are now putting up plasterboard there. Behind the plasterboard, there is a type of board that is too porous for the screws to set in. Behind these boards, I believe, are some sort of studs, which make the cavity often too deep for the drywall screws I have (I think they are six centimeters).

In most places, I have managed to hit the studs so that the plasterboards sit well, but there are certain gaps I want to reinforce to be able to sleep soundly.

Since there are special drywall screws, I assume they serve a purpose and that I can't just buy any screw? So, what should I be looking for?

In another room with the same structure, the previous owner had put up the drywall with long nails. Is that a good alternative? As far as I could see, it looked quite good, but I am also half-blind when it comes to that.

Thanks

You can use any screw, just make sure the underside of the screw head is completely smooth. Drywall screws have slightly larger heads than regular wood screws, so just place them closer together.

Thanks for the answers, the downside of writing on forums you don't visit often is that you sometimes forget to reply.

I think I've asked at at least five different stores and looked a bit leisurely online without finding screws longer than 57 mm. Oh well, next time I'll try Beijer...

What I did was use regular drywall screws where I could get them to hold and then used extra-long wood screws and reinforced where needed. Worked without any major issues.
